Creating a Look

.

...Clare Waight Keller's doing it at ChloƩ, whatever your opinion of the results. I don't think it's my favorite of the post-Philo collections, but I do think it's the strongest statement the label's made since Phoebe left.

This is way too much but it made me think of a
jumpsuit I thrifted in Detroit a few years ago
and that I've now been reminded to pull out.

Look 31 reminds me a cross between
Phoebe Philo and Karl Lagerfeld (for Chloe).

Look 23: very Celine-ish, which is
probably why I like it so much.

Cypress

.
Highly recommended.

The inspiration for this fragrance comes from a perfectly still, slightly chilly spring morning spent soaking in a tub at the Tawaraya in Kyoto.
It pulls together our memory of the mosses and trees outdoors and sharp notes of the boxy, hinoki tub.

Cypress, Terebenthine, Campher, Cedar, Thyme, Pine, Georgywood, Encens, Treemoss, Vetiver.

Nan Goldin, Self-portrait in blue bathroom, London
1980 (cibachrome,* 30 x 40 in.)

On view at the Matthew Marks Gallery booth at the Frieze art fair, London, Oct. 11-14.

*I had no idea what this was. From wikipedia:
[Also known as is ilfochrome, cibachrome is] a dye destruction positive-to-positive photographic process used for the reproduction of film transparencies on photographic paper. The prints are made on a dimensionally stable polyester base as opposed to traditional paper base. Since it uses 13 layers of azo dyes sealed in a polyester base, the print will not fade, discolor, or deteriorate for an extended time. Accelerated aging tests conducted by Henry Wilheim indicated the product resisted fading under display conditions longer than any other known photographic color material. Characteristics of Ilfochrome prints are image clarity, color purity, as well as being an archival process able to produce critical accuracy to the original transparency.

Dinner and a Movie

.
Now that Gallery Girls is over (probably never to return, which let's be honest won't be too much of a tragedy for anyone), and in an effort to make the start of the week suck a little less, Monday nights have become art/artist documentary night.

On the screen tonight: Chiara Clemente's Our City Dreams (profiling New York City-based artists Swoon, Ghada Amer, Kiki Smith, Marina Abramovic, and Nancy Spero (1926-2009)).

On the menu: pasta puttanesca (appropriately cheap and dirty, like some of the best parts of the city).

The Good Life

.

Stills from the video for Creatures of Comfort's S/S 2013 collection. I want this house. It's so Northern Idaho ca. 1978 - which was pretty much paradise as far as I'm concerned.

I will have an outside shower one day.

...and also a dog.

See the video here (music by Victoria Bergsman of Taken by Trees).

Jenny Holzer, Florence, 1996.

It's a long ways off, but put in on your calendar because it's sure to sell out: On January 9 at the Seattle Art Museum, curator Catharina Manchanda interviews Holzer about her work and career.

Holzer's Inflammatory Essays poster series is included in "Elles: Women Artists from the Centre Pompidou, Paris," which opens at SAM this week.
