Between Light and Shadow

.
Opening credits for a short film by Patrick Richardson Wright on architect Tom Kundig and his long-time client, photographer Carol Bobo. Shot at Shadowboxx, the Lopez Island, WA home designed by Kundig for Bobo and completed in 2010. For the story of the same name in the first issue of Pacific Standard Magazine. Interview by Amber Murray (Free Time Industries, Seattle Design Foundation); story photography by Kyle Johnson. Watch the film here.

Meta

.
I like the loose nerdiness of this campaign, and the way it references bookmarking and image-gathering. Seems very post-modern and suits the label well, I think.

Solidarity

.
I'm missing my old town this week. I was there for the turn of the century, for 9/11, and for the Eastern Seaboard blackout in 2003. We had our going-away party in 2008 in the middle of Hurricane Hanna. I can't help but feel like I should have been there for this, too.

Dirty Clean

.

I'm really feeling Proenza Schouler's fall ad campaign (photographed by Alasdair McClellan and featuring model Meghan Collison – love her).

Somewhat unrelated, the ad for Proenza's new Madison Avenue store, which I also really like. The image and colors feel strangely reminiscent to me of the label's recent collections, and the way the concept is stripped down to a bold image and simple type makes me think of the way the brand has been steadily working towards a tighter, clearer identity:

Image of the Day

.
Spread from Blind Spot magazine, issue 8,
designed by Tony Arefin (1962-2000).

Tony Arefin, a self-taught designer, produced catalogs for many significant British art exhibitions during the early 90s (he was described by one design critic as  "single-handedly processing the print needs of the entire British art scene"). Arefin went on to become Creative Director at I.D. magazine, and art director for Bomb, Blind Spot, and Art + Auction. (He later worked for Wieden & Kennedy in Portland, OR, and Ogilvy & Mather, NYC.)

An exhibition of Arefin's work opens at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, on September 12. In case you happen to be on the other side of the pond.

Ain't No Party Like a West Coast Party

.

The magazine release and aftermath left us with not much time for updating the blog, but we're officially back in effect. To ease back in, some photos from the launch party last month. Thanks to everyone who came and turned it out!
