James Fogle, who wrote Drugstore Cowboy while serving a 20-year sentence for robbing a pharmacy in Western Washington, died last week in Monroe prison at age 75. Gus Van Sant's adaptation easily makes my top-10-of-all-time list (and is the reason why I never, ever put a hat on a bed).
A Northwest classic. RIP.
