A belated congratulations to our friend Carlene Bauer, whose first book was published last month by Harper. Not That Kind of Girl is an autobiographical coming-of-age story, what Walter Kirn calls "A journey from faith and innocence to something less comforting – but decidedly more interesting." I haven't had a chance to pick it up yet, but I love the cover, designed by Leanne Shapton – and if it's anything like the other things Carlene has written, it will be unique and smart and funny.Get it here or there or wherever you git yer books at.
